The IIHF World Championship Germany 2027™ has its official mascot: Teckl. The likable, self-confident, and occasionally cheeky dachshund will accompany fans, teams, and volunteers on the journey to the tournament as well as during the IIHF World Championship 2027.
A typically German ambassador
With Teckl, the IIHF World Championship 2027 has chosen a dog breed that is associated with Germany like no other. The dachshund picks up on this familiar image of the host country – as a modern and independent character.
After all, Teckl is anything but reserved: Dachshunds are considered brave, intelligent, strong-willed, and exceptionally people-oriented. They are active companions, love challenges, and have a pronounced hunting instinct. In Teckl’s case, however, this is directed less at game and more at pucks and sticks. With his curious and sometimes cheeky nature, he brings qualities that fit perfectly with ice hockey.
“With Teckl, we have found a mascot that has an unmistakable connection to the host country while also bringing a strong character of its own. He is likable, curious, and self-confident, but can also be cheeky at times. What’s more: The dog as man’s best friend fits wonderfully with the ‘Festival of Friendship.’ It is precisely this combination that makes him a character with whom we can reach fans of all ages,” explains Claus Gröbner, Managing Director of the Organizing Committee for the IIHF World Championship 2027.

Teckl was developed and designed by translating the characteristic features and traits of a dachshund into an independent character for the IIHF World Championship 2027. The goal was a mascot with high recognition value that works both on the ice and in the arenas as well as in communication around the tournament. The later implementation as a live mascot in the arenas also played an important role in the design from the outset.
“The dachshund is a character that is wonderful to work with: It is considered typically German, perhaps even has a somewhat stuffy image, and at the same time is incredibly likable and full of character. It was precisely this apparent contradiction that we wanted to resolve humorously with Teckl. The name also carries this wink: Dackel, Teckel, and Dachshund all refer to the same dog breed, with ‘Teckel’ being particularly well known from hunting terminology”, explains Gröbner.
