Fans travelling between championship cities may do so by various means. The fastest way to get from Bratislava to Košice is by car. The most comfortable and ecologically efficient way is by train, but bus is also an option. There is no direct flight between Bratislava and Kosice, but it is possible to travel between Košice and Vienna – Schwechat (Austria) which is about a 50-minute drive to Bratislava.

By train

Train travel allows you to enjoy Slovakia’s beautiful scenery. If you plan your journey well, the train can be the most comfortable and fastest means of transport.

The main railway artery in Slovakia is the route from Bratislava through Žilina and Poprad to Košice (which takes 5 to 6 hours, depending on the type of train and connections). You can get to most cities, towns, and tourist sights by train.

Train connections on most of the routes are operated by Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko. Some routes are also operated by private carriers called RegioJet and Leo Express.

By car

If you prefer the freedom of a car, there are more than 700 kilometres of highways which you can use (for a fee). The drive from Košice to Bratislava takes about 5 hours (400 – 450 kilometres).

By bus

Buses service virtually every town and village in Slovakia. The system is called Slovenská autobusová doprava (SAD). The most popular routes are also serviced by private carriers. Most bus connections start in Bratislava (Bus station Mlynské Nivy).

You usually buy tickets directly from the driver, but for some connections you can also buy tickets and reserve a seat at the bus stations of bigger towns or online.
