FAQ about Registration

How can I register for an assignment?
Registration is only possible via the official website, as all assignment planning is organized through this channel. Only registered individuals can be considered as volunteers.

I don't have an email address. How can I still register?
You need a valid email address to register. Without one, it is unfortunately not possible to register and therefore participate in the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship as a volunteer.

We are a family/married couple and only have one email address between us. How can we still register?
Each family member needs their own email address to create an individual profile. It is important that these email addresses are checked regularly, as all relevant information will be sent exclusively by email.

Is there a minimum age to participate as a volunteer?
Yes, the minimum age is 18 (cut-off date: May 1, 2026).

Is there a minimum commitment?
Yes, the minimum commitment is seven days. Volunteers who are available for a longer period of time, ideally also during the set-up and dismantling phases, will be given preference in the selection process.

Requirements:

  • Participation in the kick-off (date to be announced)
  • Participation in training courses depending on the area of assignment
  • Language skills needed in Zurich: German & English and, Fribourg: French, German & English
  • Experience in sports or major events is an advantage

Can I choose which tasks I would like to take on?
When you register, you can specify up to three preferred areas of assignment. We will try to fulfill your wishes as much as possible. Due to high demand in certain areas, we cannot guarantee placement in your preferred choice.

Can I register as a volunteer if I don't live in Switzerland?
Yes, of course. People living abroad are also very welcome. Please note that you will have to cover your own travel and accommodation costs. You will also need to have the required language skills (Zurich: German & English, Fribourg: French, German & English).

Can I volunteer if I have a disability?
Absolutely. People with disabilities are very welcome to volunteer. If you need help finding suitable areas of work, we are happy to assist you: volunteers@2026.iihfworlds.com.

Can I volunteer in both Zurich and Fribourg?
Yes, that is possible in principle. We will do our best to accommodate your preferences and allow for flexible planning. Please indicate your preferences when registering.

Why do I have to provide my passport/ID number and the country of issue?
We require this information for organizational purposes. It enables us to uniquely identify all volunteers and is necessary, for example, for accreditation, access control, or to meet official requirements. Naturally, your data will be treated confidentially and used exclusively for these purposes.

What happens after I register?
After you register, we will determine which department you will be working in and at what times. We will do our best to accommodate your preferences. This planning takes time to ensure that all volunteers are assigned optimally and that the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship runs smoothly.

In December 2025, we will inform all volunteers whether they will be working during the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. This will allow you to plan ahead.

The final schedule is expected to be published on the official platform in February 2026. You will then receive a notification in your profile with your assignments.

In addition, we will provide all important information in an online volunteer handbook. There you will find everything you need to know, from the tournament schedule to catering and accreditation.

As soon as the assignment schedule is finalized and the handbook is online, you will receive a notification so that you can look forward to the event and prepare for your assignment accordingly.

What if I have to cancel my volunteer assignment or am unable to attend?
If you are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can find a replacement in time. Cancellations can only be made directly through us. Please send an email to volunteers@2026.iihfworlds.com.
