The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) today announced the launch of its new IIHF Fan Engagement App, a major step forward in its long-term digital transformation and a key milestone within the federation’s ICE26 strategy. The app marks a decisive shift toward a more modern, personalized, and globally connected fan experience.

Unlike the previous tournament-focused application, the new Fan Engagement App is designed to accompany fans throughout the entire hockey season. It introduces an intuitive, tournament-agnostic structure that allows users to follow teams, nations, players, and events seamlessly in one place. For the first time, ice hockey followers can move fluidly between live games, detailed statistics, highlights, behind the scenes and editorial content, as well as player profiles.

“The IIHF is committed to bringing fans closer to the game, wherever they are and whenever they want to engage,” said Luc Tardif, IIHF President. “This new app is an important step in that direction. It not only improves how fans follow our tournaments, but also strengthens their connection to the sport throughout the year. It reflects the ambitions of our ICE26 strategy and our desire to modernize, innovate, and grow the global hockey community.”

The new platform was shaped by extensive research, including the IIHF fan surveys conducted in 2024 and 2025, in-depth interviews, and multiple rounds of user testing. Fans consistently indicated that they wanted faster access to scores and schedules, clearer navigation, high-quality video content, and more reasons to return to the app outside of tournament periods. These insights were instrumental in shaping a sports-first, yet content-rich experience that places each individual fan at the center.

In addition, the app will offer a significantly improved live game experience, including real-time scores, schedules and standings powered by IIHF’s own stats system. A modern home feed brings together the day’s key games, stories and highlights, while game, team and player pages provide accessible, structured information designed to increase the users individual experience. Video content plays a key role in the user experience, IIHF.TV remains seamlessly connected to provide full-length live games, replays and behind the scenes content to fans. In addition, by using AI-powered sports content technology the IIHF offers fans mobile-friendly clips and quick views across major IIHF events.

A new personalization journey invites fans to select favorite nations and tournaments from their first interaction, immediately tailoring the content they see. This early step lays the foundation for more advanced, data-driven personalization planned for future versions, including content recommendations based on user behavior and demographics. The app also introduces integrated fan engagement elements, including a loyalty portal and other interactive features that will grow over time.

By unifying the IIHF’s web, app, OTT and data environments into a connected ecosystem, this supports the federation’s broader mission to grow the game globally across all genders and age groups, offering a scalable digital platform capable of evolving with the sport.

The app will make its full event debut at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship in United States, providing comprehensive live coverage, integrated video content and enhanced storytelling throughout one of the sport’s most prominent annual events.
