The International Ice Hockey Federation wishes to warmly thank President Luc Tardif for his outstanding leadership and dedication, with more than 25 years of service to international ice hockey.

Since being elected IIHF President in 2021, Mr. Tardif has overseen a significant and transformative period for our sport. Under his guidance, the IIHF launched its long-term strategic plan, ICE 26, focused on global growth and development. He successfully navigated the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring the safe staging of Olympic tournaments under strict health protocols, and strengthened the federation’s relationship with the International Olympic Committee, the wider Olympic family, as well as several global ice hockey leagues and clubs, including NHL, NHLPA and PWHL helping secure the return of top-level player participation in Olympic competition.

Recognizing the Federation’s strong and stable position, he has determined that this is the appropriate time to relinquish the presidency.

The IIHF fully respects his decision not to seek re-election and acknowledges the enduring impact of his contributions. Mr. Tardif will remain in office until the conclusion of his mandate in October, overseeing ongoing development initiatives, commercial opportunities and preparations for forthcoming events including among others upcoming World Championships and the 2030 Winter Olympic Games.

The IIHF conveys its sincere appreciation to Mr. Tardif for his vision, commitment, and service to the global ice hockey community, and extends its gratitude to his family for their support throughout his presidency.
