Matti Nurminen

MATTI NURMINEN



 (FIN) - DIRECTOR GENERAL

Born on 9 January 1973 in Ristiina, Finland. Chosen as the IIHF Director General by the IIHF Council in June 2022 after a long career with the Finnish Ice Hockey Association (FIHA).

Nurminen was the FIHA’s CEO from 2010 to May 2022. He managed 60-70 people within several offices across Finland and oversaw all FIHA operations nationally and internationally. He was the FIHA’s Marketing and Administrative Director 2005-2009 and Finance Manager 2001-2004. Before joining the FIHA Nurminen worked four years for two companies after his studies.

Nurminen studied at the Aalto University (former Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration) majoring in accounting and minoring in Commercial Law, French language and Marketing.

Nurminen served as a General Secretary of the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship and the 2004 IIHF World Junior Championship organizing committees, and he has been a member of the organizing committees of various IIHF events held in Finland. He was a member of the IIHF Competition and Coordination Committee from 2012 to May 2022.

Nurminen is married with two children.
